Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together...

Our sweet Georgie was named after the song "Hey There Georgie Girl" by The Seekers, a name chosen by her Daddy. We found her through a random ad in the Augusta Chronicle, "Doberman Puppies". Georgie was indeed a special puppy, the runt of the litter. We believe that she chose us when she jumped into our laps as her litter mates played among themselves. Our sweet little nine-pound runt grew up over night, it seemed, weighing 78 pounds.
Georgie fetched our hearts and changed our lives forever! She cherished us for six years. Georgie traveled with us to many places, from Georgia to Germany to Maryland, living in 3 different homes. We were saddened when she was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy on May 18, 2006, a serious heart condition that is endemic to her breed. After a cocktail of medications and two hospitalizations, our baby departed this life when she went into cardiac arrest, on July 28, 2006. It was the day after we moved to Texas. Our home is so empty without her. Georgie was an Angel with a pure heart. She brought us so much joy, and now we are left behind with a giant hole in our hearts. No other dog will ever replace her.
Rest in peace sweet baby girl, until we meet again at the Rainbow Bridge.
Always and forever,
Mommy and Daddy
"I have sometimes thought of the final cause of dogs having such short lives, and I am quite satisfied it is in compassion to the human race; for if we suffer so much in losing a dog after an acquaintance of ten or twelve years, what would it be if they were to live double that time?"
~ Sir Walter Scott ~
